What are the codes in media?

There are three types of codes, technical , symbolic and written which are the tools used to construct of suggest meaning in the media.

Technical codes 

Technical codes are codes that are specific to a media form and do not live outside them. For instance understanding the the camera work we look in the film but it means nothing to the audience in the outside world.
Technical code includes camera work, lighting, editing and audio

Symbolic Codes

Symbolic codes are social in nature which means that these codes live in the outside in the product themselves. In symbolic codes the audience can see some similarity to real life. 
Symbolic codes includes setting, mise en scene, acting and color.

Written Codes 

As the word 'Written'  suggests it is the written language in the media project. 

Written codes include the printed language which the text the audience can see within the frame. As well as there is also spoken language which includes dialogues and song lyrics
